Recommended Kabaddi Betting Markets

Before you bet on Kabaddi you need to know how some of the key markets work. In the recommended Kabaddi betting market table* below you can view the main options available, as well as the risk level (1-5 scale) and whether the market is suited to novices or experts. It is always best to keep it simple when you are starting out.

Once you become more knowledgeable about the sport and you read our expert pro Kabaddi betting advice, you will have a better chance at landing winning bets in both pre-match and live Kabaddi betting markets.

Betting Market Risk Recommended for
Game Winner/Draw 2 Novice
Top raider 3 Beginner
Top tackles 4 Advanced
Team to earn 15 points 1st Half 3 Expert
Outright Winner 4 Advanced

(*risk can be managed, not volatility)

Game Winner/Draw

This is one of the simplest wagers you can place on Kabaddi. You bet on either team to win, or else for the match to finish as a draw. When betting on this market it is worth studying recent form and head to head stats. This will give you a much better chance of winning and building up a betting bank that you can use for other wagers.

Top Raider

In Kabaddi a team on offense earns points via a ‘raider’ who has to tag opponents (in a single breath) before getting back to their own half without being tackled. If you are betting on this market it is best to stick to the top raiders, like Deepak Niwas Hooda or Rahul Chaudhari. Their odds won’t be huge but at least you’ll have a decent chance of placing a winning bet.

Top Tackles

On defense, a team can earn points by successfully tackling a raider. Again, like when betting on the top raider market, you should look at recent statistics to see which tackles are in top form. Players to look out for when betting on this market include top players like Manjeet Chhillar, Surjeet Singh and Ravinder Pahal who amassed 29 tackle points in just 9 matches last season.

Team to Earn 15 Points 1st Half

Kabaddi is normally a pretty high scoring game, although when two top defenses are involved it can become tighter. When you are betting on the Pro Kabaddi league you can bet on a team to earn 15 points in the first half. This is a simple ‘yes’ or ‘no’ market, but it is probably best left to more advanced punters who have an in-depth knowledge of teams’ playing styles.

Outright Winner

Before the Pro-Kabaddi season gets underway the outright winner market is where most of the Kabaddi betting action takes place. This market requires you to bet on who you think will be the Pro-Kabaddi League Champions at the end of the season. Some of the most successful teams in recent years include the Patna Pirates, Bengaluru Bulls and the 2017 and 2018 runners up Gujarat Fortune Giants.

Kabaddi vs Pro Kabaddi

After the 2006 Asian Games, the interest in Kabaddi grew massively. It took a few years, but in 2014 Star Sports launched the Pro-Kabaddi League. The organizers were inspired by the success of the Indian Premier League and the Pro Kabaddi League followed their successful business blueprint. It was an instant hit with the Indian viewing public. 435 million watched the Pro Kabaddi League in the first season in 2014, an impressive start when you consider the IPL attracted 552 million viewers. There are now 12 different franchises with players from Iran, Bangladesh, Kenya, Nepal, Sri Lanka, USA and South Korea.

Prior to the professional era, Kabaddi was most popular in India but other nations competed too. Since 1990 kabaddi has been played at the Asian Games and India won the first 7 tournaments. They were dethroned by Iran in 2018 and other countries that compete at the sport include China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal and Pakistan. Kabaddi was demonstrated at the 1936 Olympics, but it hasn’t yet been made an Olympic Sport. Indian officials are looking to change that and hope it will be added to the Olympic roster in the future.

Standard Style & Circle Style

There are two variations of Kabaddi that are worth knowing about: Standard Style and Circle Style. There are some similarities, including the 40-minute match length and the maximum time allowed for a single raid (30 secs). In both formats, raiders must keep chanting ‘Kabaddi, Kabaddi’ for the duration of raids.

The key differences between the two styles include the playing field, the number of player and subs and the scoring system. As if that wasn’t complicated enough, there are four different types of Circle Style Kabaddi, including Punjabi, Lambi, Saunchi and Goongi. We take a look at the key differences between circle style and standard style in the table below…

  Standard Style Circle Style
Playing Field IKF Kabaddi Mats Rectangular, 13m x 10m, baulk line at 3.75m. The field is a circle with a radius of 22m. Divided by mid-line and baulk line of radius 6m each side of the mid-line.
Number of players/subs All players below 80kg. 7 players start and 5 substitutes who can come in/out at any time during the match. No weight limits. 8 players start and 5 rolling substitutions allowed during the match.
Scoring Systems Teams earn points via raids and tackles. Raid points for touch and bonus points available. 1 point for a successful tackle. 2 points for ‘All-Out’. No ‘all out’ or ‘revival’ in circle style. No raider allowed to go on successive raids. Players pushed out of bounds loses a point.

VIVO Pro Kabaddi League

The VIVO Pro Kabaddi League (official PKL site) is the most important betting event and the most prestigious competition for the players. Played in India, it is a 12 team, double round-robin tournament and it has a similar structure to the Indian Premier Cricket League. The season usually starts in July and continues through to October. The playoffs consist of two eliminators, two semi-finals and a final and the most successful VIVO Pro Kabaddi team are the Patna Pirates. They won the League for 3 years in a row between 2016/2017.

Super Kabaddi League

After seeing the success of the Pro Kabaddi League in India, the Pakistan Kabaddi Federation (PKF) decided to start their own version in 2018, the Super Kabaddi League. Players from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Iran, Bangladesh and Malaysia competed in the first edition. There is now a total of 10 franchises based in different cities around Pakistan. The inaugural winners were Gujrat Warriors. They beat Faisalabad Sherdils in the final 38-26.

Kabaddi World Cup

This is the blue riband International Kabaddi event. It was first held in India in 2004 and the hosts emerged victorious. India have won every renewal of this event so far and they are the dominant force. They beat Iran in all three of the finals.  In 2016 the first Women’s Kabaddi World Cup was played, also in India. A total of 12 countries competed in the 2016 Men’s Kabaddi World Cup and the top raider was India’s Ajay Thakur.

Kabaddi Masters

In 2018 a new international Kabaddi event was held in the UAE. Six of the biggest national teams competed in the first Kabaddi Masters including India, Pakistan, Iran, South Korea, Argentina and Kenya. The tournament was held over a week in June and just like in the World Cup, India came out on top vs Iran in the final. No date has been set for the next Kabaddi Masters so keep an eye out for news on the official Kabaddi Masters site
