Recommended Betting Markets

Ever wondered about how the key MotoGP betting markets work? If so, you are about to find the answers. In this section we explain in layman’s terms exactly how to approach the most popular motorcycle betting markets. So whether you are starting out betting on motorcycle racing or you are a motorcycle race betting veteran, it is well worth spending some time reading the next few subsections…

Betting Market Risk Level Recommended For
Race Winner 4/5 Beginners / Casual
Fastest Lap 3/5 Advanced
Podium Finish 2/5 Advanced / Expert
Constructor’s Championship 3/5 Beginners / Casual
Pole Position 3/5 Advanced / Expert

🏍️ Race Winner

An ideal market for casual punters and also for those at a more advanced level. MotoGP race betting is when you back a rider to win the race. 2nd or 3rd won’t do and to collect, you need the rider you back to finish 1st. You will see in our MotoGP betting strategy section that a number of external factors can influence the results of MotoGP races and that is why we think this pretty high-risk market is best left to punters who have a good knowledge of the riders and teams.

🏍️ Fastest Lap

This medium risk market concerns the fastest lap set during an individual MotoGP race. Looking back at previous results at the same track or at tracks with a similar profile can give clues as to who to back for each race. Clearly, riders like Marc Marquez will consistently be at the head of the Fastest Lap market but you shouldn’t just focus on betting MotoGP favourites as you can often find excellent value elsewhere…if you know where to look.

🏍️ Podium Finish

Every rider wants to finish on the podium in MotoGP races. To stand on the podium after the race the rider must finish in the first 3 and this is a market that really suits advanced or expert punters who want to give themselves as big a chance as possible of backing a winner, even if the odds aren’t great. The returns won’t be brilliant for those who bet on this market, but it is a good choice for anyone looking to make a steady, if modest, profit.

🏍️ Constructor’s Championship

This is a market that is settled when the season ends. The Constructor’s Championship market requires you to bet on the team that you think will accrue the most points throughout the season. Since the mid-1970s the Japanese manufacturers have dominated this category. In recent seasons Honda are the constructors to follow and Yamaha are also worth considering. The only non-Japanese team to win the MotoGP Constructor’s Championship since 1974 was Ducati in 2007. So, if you are considering betting on this market, stick to the old reliables from Japan.

🏍️ Pole Position

In MotoGP the starting grid positions are determined by two qualifying sessions. Whoever sets the fastest lap starts from the front of the grid in Pole Position. The second fastest lap secures second spot on the grid and so on. In this MotoGP betting market you back the rider you think will set the fastest lap in qualifying and you can find clues as to who might be worth backing by watching the 4 free practice sessions.

How to Find the Best MotoGP Odds

In this section we will explain why it is vital for you to get the best betting odds, MotoGP fans. The odds determine how much your bet returns if it wins. So, if you don’t put the effort in to get the best MotoGP betting odds when you are having a bet you won’t win as much. It really is as simple as that. The sample odds comparison table* below illustrates what we are talking about…

As we state in our top MotoGP bookies up close section, one of the main reasons why bet365 rank so highly is because of their quality odds. If you needed any further proof, look at the odds comparison table for the MotoGP outright winner* above. Okay, if you fancied the favourite Fabio Quartararo, you would be best served by heading to William Hill. However, for the other two riders bet365 had the best odds by some distance.

How Do I Bet on MotoGP?

Thankfully, betting on MotoGP is as easy as can be. All you need to do is follow the five simple steps we list below. Additionally, before you have a bet we recommend taking a close look at our MotoGP betting strategy section. If you do, you’ll dramatically increase your chances of making your first MotoGP wager a winning one…

  1. Choose one of the bookies from our list of the top 7 MotoGP betting sites.
  2. Register a new account.
  3. Choose a race to bet on (see our section on the best MotoGP races to bet on).
  4. Have a look at our MotoGP markets section and choose the one that you like best.
  5. Once the race is over and your bet is settled, that is when you’ll hopefully collect your winnings.

Live Betting

The neck-breaking speed and the roar of the engines isn’t enough for some MotoGP fans. They want even more of an adrenaline rush when watching their favourite sport and live MotoGP betting gives them exactly that. Live MotoGP betting makes watching an already exciting sport even more thrilling and the top 3 bookies for live MotoGP betting in our view are bwin, bet365 and Unibet.

All three of those bookies have live MotoGP betting available and their in-play betting suites are functional, well designed and easy to use. When you are betting live on MotoGP it is preferable to be able to get bets on quickly and you can do exactly that at the three bookies we mentioned previously. So, if you want to experience the thrill of live MotoGP betting bwin, bet365 and Unibet are worth checking out. …

Live Streaming

Since 2010 bwin have been the official partners of MotoGP. You can see their branding at certain race venues throughout the season and they have lots of MotoGP markets for punters to pick from. However, as far as we could see they (and no other bookies) don’t have live streaming of any MotoGP races during the season. If any bookmaker does begin to offer live MotoGP streaming, bwin is the most likely candidate. For now though, you’ll have to watch the races live on BT Sports but if the situation changes we’ll let you know.

Which Events Should I Bet on?

You learned in our how to bet on MotoGP section what markets to choose and in this section we outline the best races for you to bet on. The table below shows the race name, venue and host country and we will then briefly discuss how best to approach betting on each individual race that we mention. It is well worth a read as you might find some info that will help you improve on your MotoGP betting strike rate…

MotoGP Race Name Track Name Host Nation
San Marino MotoGP Misano World Circuit italy flag
Italy
British MotoGP Silverstone united kingdom flag
United Kingdom
Czech Republic MotoGP Brno Circuit czech republic flag
Czech Republic
Spanish MotoGP Circuito de Jerez spain flag

German MotoGP Sachsenring germany flag

🏁 San Marino MotoGP

The San Marino MotoGP isn’t even held in San Marino! It is actually held at the Misano World Circuit in Italy, but since there is already an Italian MotoGP, they named this one the San Marino MotoGP as the track is not far from that region. It was first held in 1981 and it has been a permanent fixture on the calendar since 2007.  You can find out lots of very useful information about the track profile and race schedule/formats on the official big race site.

🏁 British MotoGP

Until the mid-1970s the Isle of Man TT was the sole race of the MotoGP season held in the UK. However, it was removed from the calendar due to safety concerns and the first ever MotoGP held on actual British soil was in 1977 at Silverstone. Between 1987 and 2010 the British MotoGP was held at Donnington but in 2011 it returned to Silverstone. If you visit the official Silverstone website you can check out the latest news related to the British MotoGP.

🏁 Czech Republic MotoGP

This is one of the oldest MotoGPs on the calendar and it was first held back in 1965. In 1987 the newly constructed Brno Circuit hosted the race for the first time and it has been the home of the Czech Republic MotoGP ever since. It has fast corners, forests and loads of hills which make it a thrilling MotoGP race to watch. You can find out lots more information on the Czech Republic MotoGP on the official race page.

🏁 Spanish MotoGP

Held at Circuito de Jerez-Angel Nieto in Andalucia, the Spanish MotoGP is one of  the most popular races held during the season. Italian legend Valentino Rossi won the race 6 times between 2002 and 2016 and he always does well in Spain. Given his recent dominance in MotoGP, it is perhaps surprising that home favourite Marc Marquez has only three Spanish MotoGP wins to his name. Chances are he will add to that tally in the future though.

🏁 German MotoGP

The German MotoGP is held at the Sachsenring near Chemnitz in Saxony. It is the shortest circuit on the schedule at just 3.67km. This is a race that Marc Marquez loves and he won it for 7 years in a row between 2013-2019. In fact, he won the Moto2 class in 2011 and 2012 and the 125c class in 2010 so essentially, he is unbeaten at the track over the entire decade. Possibly the most famous Turn in MotoGP is at the Sachsenring. Affectionately known as the waterfall, there is a massive drop on this corner which is taken at 275kph. It is not for the faint hearted!

Expert Betting Strategy Tips

This is the section that you have all been waiting for. Our MotoGP betting experts are dab hands at finding winning bets and they have agreed to let you in on a few of their trade secrets. The expert MotoGP betting strategy tips below are well worth reading. There are no certainties when betting on MotoGP but if you follow the advice outline below you’ll give yourself a far better chance of finding regular MotoGP winners…

  • 🏍️ Look Up Official Stats:
When you are motorcycle race betting you should always take the time to study official stats. Some bikes are designed to excel on tracks with long straights and fewer corners, while other bikes are best on twisting, turning tracks. The official MotoGP website is worth checking out as they have historical stats for every race held during previous seasons.
  • 🏍️ Track Preferences:
As we already briefly mentioned in our section on the best MotoGP races to bet on, certain riders do very well on certain tracks and struggle at others. Take the dominant force in MotoGP, Marc Marquez, as an example. He won 7 German MotoGPs in a row at the Sachsenring in Germany, but he only managed 3 wins at the Spanish GP during the same period.
  • 🏍️ Don’t Forget To Check The Weather:
One of the most influential factors on bike and driver performance in MotoGP is the weather so you should always check the forecast before you bet. If rain is due look for riders/teams that have a good record on wet, slippery tracks. On the other hand, if the sun is shining and temperatures are high look for those that have done well in similar conditions earlier in the season.
  • 🏍️ Grid Position is Important:
If you are considering having a bet on one of the race markets then you need to check the Grid Positions. The grid positions are determined by Qualifying and whoever sets the fastest lap will start from pole position. If the rider you want to bet on starts from the back of the grid it will obviously massively impact their prospects of winning so make sure to look at the grid positions before you put your money down.
