2019 Ryanair Chase Preview And Tip

This race has been won by some serious horses down through the years. Last year Balko Des Flos won it for the sponsors for the very first time. Other notable winners include Cue Card and Imperial Commander who went on to win a Gold Cup. Irish horses currently dominate the head of the market. However, the one we like at an each way price is Waiting Patiently at 7/1 for Ruth Jefferson.

This 8yo son of Flemensfirth unseated on his only start this season at Kempton, through no fault of his own. That is the only chase start he hasn’t won. Is 6 from 7 over fences and 20.5f looks his optimum distance. Viewed as a future Gold Cup horse by connections, good ground all winter has robbed them of the chance to see if he stays 3 miles plus. For now, the sensible move is to stay at 20.5f and Waiting Patiently could vindicate that decision at odds of 7/1 with William Hill.

Ryanair Chase History And Records

As far as Cheltenham races go, the Ryanair Chase is relatively new. Introduced as a Grade 2 in 2005, it was granted Grade 1 status 3 years later in 2008. Since then it has become something of a trial race for the following year’s Gold Cup. Thisthatandtother won the first renewal for Paul Nicholls and Ruby Walsh, the first of four wins in the race for Ruby.

Four trainers have managed to win the race twice; Nicholls (2005/07), O’Neill (2010/11), Henderson (2006/12), David Pipe (2008/14) and Willie Mullins (2016/17). Ruby Walsh is the leading jockey with his four wins, while the only horse to win the Ryanair Chase more than once is Alberta’s Run with two wins.

Ryanair Chase Trends

  • It usually pays to concentrate on horses at the top of the market as 10 of the last 12 winners have been single figure odds.
  • Course form is key as 11 of the last 12 winners had at least 2 runs at Cheltenham while 10 of the last 12 had won a race at the track.
  • Interestingly, of the last 12 winners only 4 had won on their previous start, so don’t be put off a selection if it was beaten last time out.
  • British trainers dominated the early renewals, but the Irish have won the last three in a row.
  • Gigginstown House is associated with Ryanair supremo Michael O’Leary, so watch out for his horses as this is a race he likes to target and won in 2018.

Ryanair Chase Betting Strategies: How To Make A Profit

If you want to maximise your chances of making a profit on the Ryanair Chase there are a number of betting strategies you should consider. Always take note of course conditions and keep a close eye on the weather forecast. Some horses relish heavy or soft ground, while others like good ground so back horses that are suited by the prevailing conditions.

Also, look out for bookies who are going Best Odds Guaranteed if you are placing an Ante-Post wager. BetVictor and Paddy Power are non-runner no bet on quite a few races already, including the Ryanair Chase.

Punters who fancy themselves as good readers of a race should consider in-play betting. bet365 have live Ryanair Chase betting on their sportsbook, while the Betfair Exchange is an excellent place to bet in-play too. If there is a red hot fav, the betting without markets are worth a look, while forecasts, tricasts and each way betting are other options. How To Bet On The Ryanair Chase

The Ryanair Chase is one of the most popular Grade 1s at the Cheltenham Festival. It always attracts a lot of attention from punters and there are loads of different markets to choose from. We look at some of the key betting options for the Ryanair Chase below…

Ryanair Chase Betting: Win And Each Way

By far the most common wagers for not just the Ryanair Chase, but for racing in general, are win and each way bets. In the run up to the race, ante-post win and each way bets are placed by shrewd punters in search of value. However, beware because if your ante-post selection doesn’t run, you lose your stake.

As we stated earlier, watch out for bookies that are offering non-runner no bet (NRNB) on Cheltenham races. Some betting sites go NRNB sooner than others, and at the time of writing bet365 was offering NRNB on the Ryanair Chase.

Also, when betting each way look out for extra place specials, especially if there is a big field. Paddy Power are well known for offering enhanced each way terms, so check them out for your each way Ryanair Chase bets.

Ryanair Chase Betting: Forecasts and Tricasts

For some punters, finding the winner is difficult enough, so finding the 1-2 or 1-2-3 might seem like an impossible task. However, if you do manage to place a winning forecast or tricast, you will usually be very well rewarded. For straight forecasts, you need to predict the 1-2 in the correct order. Straight forecasts require you to get the 1-2-3 correct.

You can also place reverse forecasts if you are not sure of the correct order. To land a reverse forecast your two selections must finish first and second in any order. Combination tricasts are the same except you must predict the first three home in any order. A reverse forecast consists of two wagers so a £5 reverse forecast costs £10. A combination tricast has six separate bets, so a £5 combo tricast costs £30.

Ryanair Chase Betting: Betting Without

Punters that like value will be interested in the ‘Betting Without’ markets for the Ryanair Chase. Betting without wagers come into their own when there is a red hot favourite in a race. For example, it looks like Min will be sent off at pretty skinny odds for the 2019 Ryanair Chase. If you think the fav is a certainty but don’t fancy backing it at short odds, the Betting Without the Favourite market is worth a look.

This is a separate market priced up as if the favourite isn’t running. So, if you back a horse to win in this market, and he finishes 2nd to the favourite, you win your bet. You can also bet each way in this market and both bet365 and Coral regularly form ‘Betting Without’ markets.

Ryanair Chase Betting: Match Betting

Match betting is another wager type worth exploring for the Ryanair Chase. With match bets, you are simply backing one horse against another. Some betting sites have three horses in a group and you back one horse to beat the other two. These wagers are a lot easier to win than a straight win or each way bets, but the odds aren’t as generous.

Where match bets come in handy is when you spot a horse that has beaten one of his rivals in the past yet is a bigger price. The outright win odds will likely be reflected in the match betting markets. So, if you bet in the match market you only need to beat that other horse home to make a modest profit.

Ryanair Chase Betting: Winning Distance

The winning distance markets come into their own if there is an absolute certainty in a race. If you can’t see Min being beaten in the Ryanair Chase and you want better odds than in the race winner market, the winning distance market could be just what you are looking for.

If you place a winning distance bet, your horse has to win by a set distance in order for your wager to be successful. This is an over/under type bet and the selection of distances is determined by your selection’s price. So, for example, in the Ryanair Chase you could bet on the fav to win by 6 lengths or more, or to win by less than 6 lengths.

Ryanair Chase: In Play Betting

In play betting has become the go to wager type for lots of punters. bet365 are one of the best around when it comes to offering live betting on horse racing. You can also stream every race from the UK and Ireland live on both desktop and mobile with bet365, including the Ryanair Chase. Find out more about the best live horse racing betting sites below…

You can also stream racing live with bet365, so you can bet and watch on their desktop and mobile sites. However, it is important to remember that streams are usually delayed by a few seconds.
