2024 Racing Post Trophy Main Contenders

Anthony Van Dyck

Aidan O’Brien and Coolmore won this race for the eighth time last year with Saxon Warrior and he will be hoping to repeat the dose with Anthony Van Dyck. This son of Galileo was beaten on his first try at Group 1 level at the Curragh last time by Quorto, but he lost little caste in defeat. It was a super effort and the horse that beat him looks to be a very smart one. He had previously won three on the bounce, including a Group 3 at Leopardstown and a Group 2 at the Curragh. He is one of the leading contenders for the 2024 Racing Post Trophy and he should be bang there at the business end.

Best Anthony Van Dyck Ante-Post Racing Post Trophy Odds: None Available.

Too Darn Hot

John Gosden has some serious horses to go to war with at the moment and Too Darn Hot is one of them. This impeccably bred son of Dubawi has yet to taste defeat in three starts and he has scored at Group 3 and Group 2 level on his last two outings. He was particularly impressive when beating Phoenix Of Spain here on good ground over 7f last time out and he slammed Arthur Kitt over the same trip at Sandown on his penultimate start. He holds entries in all the big end of season Group 1s, and if he turns up in the Racing Post Trophy he is likely to go off as favourite.

Best Too Darn Hot Ante-Post Racing Post Trophy Odds: None available.

Sangarius

Sir Michael Stoute is perhaps better known these days for his exploits with older horses, but it looks like he has a very talented juvenile on his hands in Sangarius. This son of Kingman remains unbeaten after two runs and he took the step up into Listed class in his stride at Doncaster last time out over 7f. He beat a 102 rated horse by over 2L that day on good to soft and he looks a very exciting prospect. This colt is also entered in the Dewhurst, but given he has course form in the book it would be surprising if he didn’t go for the Racing Post Trophy. He is sure to be near the head of the market if he takes his chance.

Best Sangarius Ante-Post Racing Post Trophy Odds: None available.

Phoenix Of Spain

This nicely bred son of Lope De Vega was thwarted in his attempt for a three timer by Too Darn Hot last time out. He had previously scored in a Group 3 at York over 7f on good to firm, beating a useful sort in Watan by a length and a half. He was given every chance by James Doyle last time at Doncaster, but Too Darn Hot was just too darn good! The worry for Phoenix Of Spain supporters is that he is yet to race on ground slower than good, and if it came up soft it would be a complete unknown. He hasn’t a huge amount to find with Too Darn Hot though, and he could be one for each way players in the 2024 Racing Post Trophy.

Best Phoenix Of Spain Ante-Post Racing Post Trophy Odds: None available.

Arthur Kitt

One of the biggest feel good stories of the 2024 season was Arthur Kitt’s win at Royal Ascot. This son of Camelot’s dam died when giving birth to him, and he had to be resuscitated a couple of times himself. It was a very emotional moment for connections when he won the Listed Chesham Stakes, but he was no match for Too Darn Hot at Sandown last time. However, the 7f trip that day looked a bit on the sharp side for him and he was staying on well at the finish. The step up to a mile should suit and if the ground is good or better he could go well at a nice price.

Best Arthur Kitt Ante-Post Racing Post Trophy Odds: None available.

2024 Racing Post Trophy Tip-Arthur Could Be King At Doncaster!

There has been no market formed for the 2024 Racing Post Trophy yet, but as soon as odds become available we will update this page. Looking at the bare form and official ratings, both Too Darn Hot and Anthony Van Dyck look the ones to beat, and Sangarius is another interesting horse. However, at what will likely be a double figure price, Arthur Kitt could represent a bit of each way value. This fella has shaped as though stepping up in trip would suit, and he races over a mile for the first time here. The extra furlong could help him close the gap to Too Darn Hot and he is our each way tip for the 2024 Racing Post Trophy.

Sportsbetting24 2024 Racing Post Trophy Tip: Arthur Kitt each way.

Racing Post Trophy Facts

Since its introduction all the way back in 1961 some outstanding horses have won the Racing Post Trophy. The list of previous winners includes names like Camelot, St Nicholas Abbey, King’s Theatre and High Chaparral. It was awarded Group 1 status in 1971 and from 1989 to 2017 the race was known as the Racing Post Trophy. In 2024 the name changed to the Vertem Futurity Trophy Stakes. Lester Piggott is the most successful jockey in the race with five wins, while the late Henry Cecil won it on ten occasions. Since 1987 five horses have gone on to win the Derby after winning this race, and Camelot was the last to achieve the famous double back in 2011-12.

How To Bet On The Racing Post Trophy-Follow The Market Leaders!

As we outlined earlier, shocks are a rarity in the Racing Post Trophy. It usually pays to back horses at the head of the betting market, and seven of the last ten winners were sent off favourite. Only one winner in that period was priced up at bigger than 7/2. If you are considering having an ante-post bet on the Racing Post Trophy tread carefully, because if your selected horse is a non runner, you lose your money.

However, you will likely get a better price if you bet on the ante-post market for the Racing Post Trophy and bet365 and Ladbrokes usually have the best prices. Forecasts and tricasts are another fun way to bet on the Racing Post Trophy, and you could win big for small stakes. It is usually a small field and given that the fancied horses usually come to the fore it is a good race for placing forecasts and tricasts. In the 2017 Racing Post Trophy the tricast paid over £100 to a £1 stake.

Racing Post Trophy Betting Promotions

When you are betting on the Racing Post Trophy you should keep your eyes peeled for any relevant betting promotions. Some bookmakers are better than others when it comes to running promotions, but usually Betfair is worth checking out for specials for existing customers.

You might manage to get an enhanced price on a hot favourite, or maybe even money back if your horse finishes second. It is well worth checking for promotions as they could soften the blow of a bad beat, or they could boost your winnings!

At the time of writing promotions for the Racing Post Trophy were thin on the ground, but as soon as some become available, we will update this page with a selection of the best Racing Post Trophy promotions.

Racing Post Trophy Ascot FAQs

When is the Racing Post Trophy run?

The Racing Post Trophy (now known as the Vertem Futurity Trophy) is run at the end of October at Doncaster every year. This Group 1 contest for 2yos is run over a mile and it is usually contested by the best 2yos around. It is the last big Group 1 race of the season in the UK and soon afterwards the focus switches to the jumpers. This is always a race worth watching with a view to the following year, as was demonstrated by the 1-2 in the 2017 renewal, Saxon Warrior and Roaring Lion.

What betting site has the best Racing Post Trophy odds?

We are often asked which betting site has the best Racing Post Trophy Odds. Well, odds can vary from horse to horse and between bookmakers, so there is no right or wrong answer to the question. For ante-post betting both Ladbrokes and bet365 are usually two of the best betting sites for ante post wagers on the Racing Post Trophy. However, that isn’t always the case and we recommend shopping around to ensure you get the best value possible.

Do any UK bookies have live Racing Post Trophy streaming?

The Racing Post Trophy will be shown live on terrestrial television, but you can also stream it live with lots of UK betting sites. The vast majority of major UK bookmakers have live horse racing streaming available, including BetVictor and William Hill. Remember though, most bookies require you to place a bet on the race before they allow you to stream it live. Minimum bet size can vary between bookmakers, so make sure to check the terms and conditions.
