Those who are thinking about betting on the Stayers’ Hurdle have an endless amount of options. Any betting site worth its salt will have betting available for the Stayers’ Hurdle. What makes some bookies stand out from the crowd is the quality of odds, the size of their sign up offer and the range of Cheltenham Festival promotions for existing customers. Taking this into account, the above is what we rate as the best Stayers’ Hurdle betting sites in the UK…
2019 Stayers’ Hurdle Odds
Thursday, March 14 is the date the Stayers’ Hurdle will be run at the Cheltenham Festival in 2019. At the time of writing 44 horses still remained in the field, but the maximum field size permitted is 24. The race is scheduled to start at 3.30pm and barring any mishaps, Paisley Park looks sure to go off favourite.
2019 Stayers’ Hurdle Preview And Tip
Last year Penhill returned from a long absence to take the Stayers’ Hurdle. He will be hoping to repeat the trick in 2019, but it won’t be easy. He is up against a formidable opponent this year in Paisley Park. Hopefully, Penhill turns up in tip-top shape, because if he does this could be a classic Stayers’ Hurdle. The likes of Samcro, Supasundae and especially Faugheen add more intrigue to the race.
However, we are finding it hard to look past the favourite here. Paisley Park has improved at a rate of knots this season. Any doubts about him handling Cheltenham were dispelled in devastating fashion last time. He wouldn’t want heavy ground, but if there is good in the description it will suit him best. Paisley Park looks a different horse to the one that finished down the field here last year. He is a confident selection for the 2019 Stayers’ Hurdle with non-runner no bet now available.

Stayers’ Hurdle History And Records
The Stayers’ Hurdle has been a mainstay of the Cheltenham Festival for over a century. First run at Prestbury Park in 1912, it was initially a Seller, where the winner would be sold for £50 post-race. Since 1972 it has been known as the Stayers’ Hurdle and some legends of the national hunt game have won it. Previous Stayers’ Hurdle heroes include the likes of Inglis Drever, Baracouda and record four-time winner, Big Buck’s.
Ruby Walsh is the leading jockey in this race with five wins, while the leading trainer is Paul Nicholls with four, all with Big Buck’s. The Wylies (Inglis Drever/Nichols Canyon) and the Stewarts (Big Buck’s) share the honours for leading Stayers’ Hurdle owner with four wins apiece. Looking back at past results can often help uncover future Stayers’ Hurdle winners. You can check out some key Stayers’ Hurdle trends and stats below.
Stayers’ Hurdle Trends
Favourites dominated in the Stayers’ Hurdle between 2008-2012 but only one has obliged since 2013 (Thistlecrack in 2016).
The phrase horses for courses holds true for the Stayers’ Hurdle as all of the last 12 winners had a previous run at Cheltenham.
Grade 1 or 2 winning form is imperative as 11 of the last 12 winners had at least won a Grade 1 or 2. Nine of the last twelve winners were Grade 1 winners.
Also, stick to horses that won last time out as 75% of the last 12 winners were victorious on their last outing before the Stayers’ Hurdle.
Another interesting trend is that only 2 of the last dozen winners were rated less than 158.
Stayers’ Hurdle Betting Strategies: How To Make A Profit
If you want to make a profit on the Stayers’ Hurdle it is a far from simple task. As recent results have shown, the market leaders have not fared well. However, if you want to increase your chances of staying in the black from betting on the Stayers’ Hurdle we have some guidelines you should follow.
Firstly, although it might seem obvious, it can’t be stressed enough how important it is to find the best odds. As you can see from the odds comparison table above, prices can differ quite dramatically depending on the bookie.
Each way terms can vary too, so those in search of place money at big prices should keep an eye out for extra place specials. Ladbrokes and Paddy Power are both reliable when it comes to value and each way specials.[select_bonuses object=”20″ bonus=”1402″]
In-running betting is where race readers thrive, and often massive value can be had when betting in-play on racing. If you know a horse will be held up or tends to come under pressure early before staying on late, you will get far bigger odds by betting in-running. Bet365 are one of the few UK sportsbooks that have in play betting on the Stayers’ Hurdle, so in-running experts should check them out…

How To Bet On The Stayers’ Hurdle
The Stayers’ Hurdle is always one of the biggest betting events of the week at the Cheltenham Festival. It is the feature race on the third day and some of the best long distance hurdlers on the planet fight it out for glory. Punters have a multitude of betting options, and for beginners, it can be quite daunting. If you are wondering about how to bet on the wide range of Stayers’ Hurdle markets, keep on reading for more insightful information.
Stayers’ Hurdle Betting: Win, Place And Each Way
For experts and novices alike, by far the most commonly placed Stayers’ Hurdle wagers are outright win and each way bets. As the name indicates, outright win bets require you to pick the winner. If you are having a bet on the place market, you will need your selection to finish in the 1-2-3.
Each way bets are a combination of place and win bets. Your stake is split evenly between both markets. If you place a £10 e/w bet on a 10/1 shot at 1/5 odds, you will get £10 on the win (10/1) and £10 on the place (2/1). So, a £10 bet costs £20 to place, and if your horse finishes 2nd or 3rd you pocket a nice £10 profit. If your horse manages to win, your total profit will be £120.
If you prefer backing horses at big prices, each way or place bets are the way to go. Favourite backers are best served by backing in the win market. Again, we always emphasise the importance of getting the best odds and also availing of any extra place each way specials.
Stayers’ Hurdle Betting: Forecasts and Tricasts
In Grade 1 races the market leaders and highest rated horses often dominate. The Stayers’ Hurdle has been won by some bigger priced horses in recent years, but even those ‘outsiders’ ticked most of the boxes of a potential Stayers’ Hurdle winner. If you want to try and win massive money for small stakes, forecasts and tricasts are excellent bet types.
A straight forecast or straight tricast require you to pick the first three home in the Stayers’ Hurdle. You have to predict the exact finishing order to win and each of those wagers counts as one single bet. If you want to increase your prospects of getting a nice windfall, reverse forecasts and combo tricasts are where it is at. They cost more (rev forecast = 2 x bets; combo tricast = 6 x bets), but your selections can finish in the first two or three in any order.
In the 2018 Stayers’ Hurdle the forecast paid £78.34 to a £1 stake, while the tricast paid a whopping £1042.05 to a £1 stake. Those who dream of winning big for relatively small money should take a chance on placing a forecast or tricast with BetVictor or Bet365.

Stayers’ Hurdle Betting: Betting Without
Another interesting option for betting on the Stayers’ Hurdle is the ‘Betting Without’ market. This market usually applies when there is a red hot favourite in the race. The bookie prices up the race without the favourite. If you place a win bet on the ‘Betting Without’ market, if your horse finishes second to the favourite you will be quids in.
Each way and place betting is also available from most bookies in ‘Betting Without’ markets. The premise is the same, if your selection finishes 1 place outside the money but the favourite is ahead of it, you will get paid your place money. If your each way pick finishes 2nd to the favourite, you will get paid in both the win and place markets.
Stayers’ Hurdle Betting: Winning Distance
The ‘Winning Distance’ market for the Stayers’ Hurdle is usually popular when there is a solid market leader. In 2019 Paisley Park was the one that was fancied by most, and his odds of just 9/4 may not have appealed to some punters. However, if you fancy a market leader strongly you could get better odds if you bet on the winning distance.
This is basically an over/under type bet and the most likely winning distance is set by the bookmakers. Generally, the shorter the favourite is in the betting, the further the set winning distance will be. You bet on the horse to win by either over or under the set distance. William Hill and Coral are two of the best Stayers’ Hurdle betting sites for winning distance bets.
Stayers’ Hurdle: In-Running Betting
The Stayers’ Hurdle is an ideal race for in running bettors. The fact that it is a 3-mile race means it takes time to unfold, and bookies can overreact to where horses are positioned in a race. This gives eagle-eyed in running punters the chance to gain an edge if they think they know a horse’s running style better than the bookies’ traders…
Best In-Running Stayers’ Hurdle Betting Sites
For those who enjoy betting in running on the Stayers’ Hurdle, the Betfair Exchange is the most commonly used betting site. Not many UK sportsbooks have in running horse racing betting, but the notable exception is Bet365. They have in-running betting odds available for every Irish and UK horse race, so if you want to bet in-running on the Stayers’ Hurdle, sign up with Bet365 now!
Live Horse Racing Streaming Betting Sites
When it comes to betting sites with live horse racing streaming, punters are spoilt for choice. A massive amount of UK betting sites have live streaming of horse races, including the Stayers’ Hurdle and every other race at the Cheltenham Festival.
Live streaming of racing is free with the majority of bookies, luckily. Most require you to place a qualifying bet on the race you want to stream. The size of the qualifying bet can vary. Learn more about how to live stream horse races on our guide to live streaming on betting sites.
