It is a scary, and scintillating spectacle and hopefully our Grand National betting guide will help to point you in the direction of the 2019 winner. Grand National 2019 Main Contenders

There is still a good few months to go before the 2019 Grand National but even at this early stage there is ante-post betting available. With ante-post bets you lose if your horse doesn’t run, so they can be a risky proposition. However, the odds on offer offset the risk and if you want to enhance your chances of backing a winner at a huge price, then having an early bet on the 2019 Grand National is the way to go. Check out the prospects of some of the main contenders below….

Tiger Roll

Trainer: Gordon Elliott.

Age: 8yo.

Tiger Roll was voted the Jumps Horse of the year in 2018 thanks to his heroics in the Aintree Grand National and at the Cheltenham festival. He won the Cross Country Chase at the festival in fine style, and he was well supported for the Grand National after that display. The son of Authorized was sent off at just 10/1 and he prevailed by a head from Pleasant Company at Aintree in a pulsating finish. Plenty will fancy him to go close again in 2019 and the bookies are taking no chances. He is a best price of 20/1 with Betfred for the 2019 Aintree Grand National and if he makes the line up he will go off a whole lot shorter.

Up to £100 in Bet Credits for new customers at bet365. Min deposit £5 and 1x settled bet requirement to release Bet Credits. Min odds, bet and payment method exclusions apply. Returns exclude Bet Credits stake. Time limits and T&Cs apply.

Best Tiger Roll Ante-Post Grand National Odds: 20/1 Bet365

Pleasant Company

Trainer: Willie Mullins.

Age: 10yo.

The 2018 Aintree Grand National runner up was only beaten a head by Tiger Roll last year and it was a brilliant performance. He just ran out of track and if the race was 10 yards longer he probably would have won. Willie Mullins won this race all the way back in 2005 with Hedgehunter but he has failed to win it since. He will likely have more than one runner in the field of 40, but if Pleasant Company turns up in the same form in 2019 he looks to be his best chance of getting back into the winner’s enclosure. He could be worth an ante-post each way bet at odds of 25/1 with Betfair.

You must sign-up with Promo Code - ZSK200 | You must deposit £10 via debit/credit card or Paypal only | Other E-Wallet deposits will not count for this promotion | You must place a £10 single bet on any sportsbook market to qualify | Qualifying bets must be placed at odds of 1/5 (1.2) | Only bets placed and settled within the first 30 days of account opening qualify | Cashed Out and Voided bets do not qualify | Multiple bets are excluded and any single bets in multiple bets are also excluded (e.g Lucky 15) | Free bets are valid for 30 days.

Best Pleasant Company Ante-Post Grand National Odds: 25/1 Betfair

Bellshill

Trainer: Willie Mullins.

Age: 8yo.

As we already mentioned, Willie Mullins will have more than one runner in the 2019 Grand National. Pleasant Company looks to be his main hope, but Bellshill could be dangerous if he gets decent ground. He ran a cracker at Fairyhouse in the Irish National last season, travelling supremely well but emptying in the final furlong on the very testing ground. He made amends when taking the Irish Gold Cup in taking style at Punchestown back down in trip to 3 miles on his next start. He is now rated 168 so he is likely to carry a massive weight if he runs in the 2019 Grand National and that won’t be easy. He is a best price of 25/1 with Coral.

Best Bellshill Ante-Post Grand National Odds: 25/1 Coral

Step Back

Trainer: Mark Bradstock.

Age: 8yo.

Mark Bradstock isn’t the most well known trainer in the UK by any means, but he is capable of getting the best out of a good horse. He won a Gold Cup with Coneygree and he will be hoping to add the 2019 Grand National with Step Back, a massively exciting 8yo son of Indian River. This fella demolished a good field by 13L in the Bet365 Gold Cup at Sandown over 3m 5f off a mark of 135 and he has been hiked to 149 now. However, he looked a potential Grade 1 chaser in the making so he should have no issues from a handicapping perspective. The Bradstock’s nominated this race as his target last season after Sandown and he represents excellent each way value at 33/1 with Betfred.

18+, New UK (and Northern Ireland) customers only | Only your first bet counts as a qualifying bet | A qualifying bet is a ‘real money’ stake of at least £10 placed on any sports markets | Minimum odds of Evens (2.0) | Free bets time limits apply | Free bet stakes not included in returns

Best Step Back Ante-Post Grand National Odds: 33/1 Betfred

One For Arthur

Trainer: Lucinda Russell.

Age: 9yo.

One For Arthur was the hero at Aintree in 2017, hosing up by 4L and jumping like a stag over the Grand National fences. Unfortunately, last season was a write off for the Scottish Star due to injury but he is reportedly well on the way to recovery. With horses, it is always hard to know if they will retain all their old ability after a setback, so it makes sense to see how he runs on his comeback before having a bet on him for the big one. If he is as good as he was, he is capable of making an impact at Aintree in April and if he makes it to the race he won’t be as big as the 33/1 that he is now with Coral.

18+. New Customers only. Min £10 stake on selected games. £10 Bonus 24x wagering req. £10 Free Spins (20p each). £10 Golden Chips (£1 each) selected games. Paypal/certain deposit types excl. All valid 30 days (bonus + winnings removed). T&Cs Apply.

Grand National Tips and Trends

As the previous table shows, just backing favourites for the Grand National would leave you badly out of pocket. With 40 horses and some seriously scary jumps, luck plays a big part in this famous race. However, there are a number of Grand National tips and trends that you can use to try and narrow the field. Our experts reveal some of their Grand National tips and outline the trends you should follow in the list below.

  • Age is more than just a number and it pays to concentrate on horses aged between 8yo-11yo.
  • Weight is crucial and only one winner has carried more than 11st 6lbs since 1994.
  • Course form is a huge plus and the Becher Chase is a good trial race to keep an eye on.
  • Horses that have run well in the Irish Grand National often go well at Aintree too.
  • Ground conditions are always crucial so keep a close eye on the weather forecast.

2019 Grand National Tip

The 2019 Grand National will be run on April 4 and loads of bookies already have ante-post betting available. Obviously, as we said earlier course form is important so the likes of Tiger Roll, Pleasant Company and One For Arthur all tick that box. Step Back doesn’t, but the manner of his win at Sandown suggests that he will be just fine over the National Fences.

He jumped quickly and accurately at Sandown and he was showing no signs of stopping over the 3m 5f trip. He has won on ground ranging from heavy to good to soft under rules and in point to points, so once it isn’t rattling quick ground he should be fine. His trainer nominated the Grand National as his target after his Sandown win and if he wins on his reappearance the 33/1 currently available with Betfred won’t last long.

Sportsbetting24 2019 Grand National Tip: Step Back E/W @ 33/1

Grand National Betting Markets

Grand National Betting: Win/Each Way

The simplest bet type you can place on the Grand National is a win single or each way single bet. With a win single only first place will do as your horse needs to win for you to collect. Each way bets are split between the win market and the place market, and with some bookies you can get enhanced each way terms of up to 8 places. Make sure to shop around on Grand National Day for the best odds and take advantage of extra place specials. Bet365 and Paddy Power score well in those departments for the Grand National so they could be worth giving a chance to.

Grand National Betting: Forecast/Tricast

If you want to win big on the Grand National for small stakes, forecast and tricast bets are well worth checking out. You can place straight forecasts or tricasts and with those wagers you must predict the first 2 (forecast) or 3 (tricast) home in the correct order. Combination forecasts and tricasts require you to pick the first 2 or 3 home in any order. A combination forecast contains 2 bets so a £5 bet combi forecast will cost £10. A combination tricast contains 6 bets, so a £5 combi tricast costs £30. Last year the Grand National forecast paid £246.37 for £1, while the tricast paid £9,439.25 for £1.

Grand National Betting: Number of Finishers

Another interesting market offered by some bookmakers is ‘Number of Finishers’. With this wager you need to accurately predict the number of finishers in the race. With so many jumps and such a long distance, many horses don’t make it home and as an example, only 12 horses out of 38 starters reached the finishing line in the 2018 Grand National. As a general rule, the heavier the ground the less finishers there will be, so if you decide to have a bet on the number of finishers keep an eye on the underfoot conditions. Betfair and Coral often have decent odds for the number of finishers market.

Grand National Betting Promotions

It is always advisable to take advantage of any relevant Grand National promotions if you want to maximise your winnings. Some bookies offer enhanced each way terms, while others will have money back specials for fallers. At the time of writing in August 2018 there were no available 2019 Grand National promotions, but we have listed some of the best 2018 Grand National Promotions to give you an idea of what to look out for when the race draws closer.

Paddy Power Grand National: 6 Places Each Way 1/5 Odds

Paddy Power can always be relied upon to come up with excellent and innovative promotions. In February 2018 they launched their extra place special for the 2018 Grand National. If you placed an each way Grand National bet with Paddy Power you got paid out at 1/5 odds for 6 places. There is every chance that Paddy Power will have a similar offer for the 2019 Grand National so watch this space for updates!

William Hill Grand National: 5 Places Each Way 1/4 Odds

William Hill is one of the best known bookies in the UK and they often have excellent Grand National extra place specials. In 2018 William Hill paid out an extra place, one less than Paddy Power, but crucially they paid out 1/4 odds in comparison to 1/5 with Paddy Power. Hopefully William Hill will have a similar offer for the 2019 Grand National.

Grand National Betting FAQs

Which bookie has the best Grand National betting odds?

When it comes to betting on the 2019 Grand National it is important that you find the best odds possible for your bet. Odds can differ from betting site to betting site and each way terms can be different too. Our advice is to shop around and locate the very best odds for your selected wager. As a general rule, Ladbrokes, Bet365 and Coral are usually reliable when it comes to offering the best Grand National betting odds.

What UK betting site has the best Grand National betting promotions?

At the time of writing, promotions for the 2019 Grand National were thin on the ground. Paddy Power and William Hill had good extra place specials last year and hopefully they have more of the same in 2019. You should also keep an eye out for bookies that go Non-Runner No Bet. This takes the risk out of ante-post betting, as your stake will be returned if your horse doesn’t run. Betfair were one of the earliest bookies to go non-runner no bet for the Grand National in 2018.

Can I stream the Grand National live with any UK betting sites?

The simple answer to this question is yes! Loads of UK Bookies allow punters to stream the Grand National live. Paddy Power, Coral, Betfred, Bet365 and William Hill all allow their customers to stream the Grand National live. With most bookies, you need to place a minimum bet on the Grand National in order to stream it live. Minimum bet size can vary between bookmakers, so take your time and choose the bookie best suited to your punting habits.
