2019 Copa America Betting Tip
The 2019 Copa America will be held in Brazil and the hosts are unsurprisingly favourites. They may have come up short in recent World Cups, but these are much calmer waters. They have a squad filled with players from the top European clubs, with just three players plying their trade in Brazil. The likes of Alisson, Neymar, Thiago Silva, Arthur and Firmino are in the squad and if they are at their best, they are the team to beat.
Argentina are next best in the betting, football’s great underachievers. They also have a star-studded squad with Messi and Aguero leading the line. Their defence doesn’t look that strong though and they could be vulnerable. We think Colombia could be Brazil’s biggest threat. They are attractively priced at 10/1 and they have a strong squad with a nice mix of youth and experience. You can back them each way at 10/1 for 1/3 odds, 1-2 places with Betfair.

Copa America History And Records
The 2019 Copa America was the 46th renewal of South Americas premier international tournament. Predicting the years in which the Copa America will be held is about as easy as picking the winning lotto numbers, twice! The last one was held in 2016, there was one in 2015 and there will be Copa Americas in 2019 and 2020. After that, who knows when the next one will be. Chile have won the last two renewals, but many of that golden generation have either retired or are past their best.
The most successful Copa America nation of all time is not the country you might expect. It isn’t the other one either, as Uruguay lead the way with 15 titles, closely followed by Argentina with 14. Brazil lag well behind with just 8. Zizinho and Norberto Mendez are tied for most Copa America goals with 18 apiece. Leo Messi holds the record for most assists with 11, while the player with the most Copa America appearances is Chilean goalkeeper Sergio ‘El Sapo’ Livingstone.
Copa America Betting Advice
- Carrying out sufficient research is crucial and you should always study stats related to current form and head to head records.
- If you are having a first/anytime goalscorer bet you could land a big winner by backing penalty or free kick takers that play at the back or in midfield.
- Keep your finger on the pulse and watch out for important team news regarding injuries.
- Experienced soccer punters who have the experience of watching lots of matches could make a killing from in-play betting.
- Don’t be afraid to bet on obscure markets, particularly if you think you have found a good angle.
Copa America Betting Strategies: How To Make A Profit
Here at Sportsbetting24, we are constantly reminding punters of the importance of shopping around. It isn’t easy making a profit from betting on the Copa America, but when you do find a winner you want to make as much money as possible. That’s why locating the most generous odds should always be a top priority.
As an example, for the 2019 Copa America, Argentina are 10/3 with Betfair. However, you can also back them at 17/4 with Unibet. A £20 bet with Betfair would yield a profit of £66.60. With Unibet, you would pocket a profit of £85. That is a huge difference and illustrates why odds have such a big effect on profitability in both the long and short term.
Another useful way to increase profits is to resist the temptation of accas. Yes, you can win big for small stakes but bookies push acca boost and acca insurance promos for a reason. The more legs you include, the more the risk of losing rises and we recommend sticking to value single bets. If you do decide to place a Copa America acca, utilise promotions and try and keep the number of legs to a minimum.
How To Bet On The Copa America
Anyone familiar with betting on football will know that there are literally hundreds of markets to pick from. For beginners it can be daunting at the start, but it doesn’t take too long to get the hang of things. In this section, we look at some of the most popular Copa America betting markets. From outright betting, to goalscorer markets and everything in between, if you want to know how to bet on the Copa America you will definitely benefit from the insight we give below. Keep on scrolling to learn more about the most popular (and some less well known) Copa America markets.
Copa America Betting: Outright Markets
Those having a pre-tournament bet will most likely do so on one of the many outright Copa America markets. The outright winner is undoubtedly the most popular market, but you can also bet on ‘Group Winners’, ‘Top Scorer’ and even ‘Player of the Tournament’. As ever, when betting on these markets make sure to hunt down the best price.
If you want to go big, you can place a Top Scorer/Outright Winner combined bet. For example, Neymar to be top scorer and Brazil to lift the trophy. You will usually get very tasty odds for combined bets, but we recommend keeping stakes small. You can check the odds for the Top scorer in this year’s Copa America in our next section.
Copa America Betting: Goalscorer Markets
Goalscorer betting is extremely popular and it is easy to see why. Goals make games exciting and if you can profit from a player banging one into the back of the net, it makes it even sweeter. You can bet on goalscorer markets for every Copa America game and the options are first, last or anytime goalscorer. You can also bet on a player to score 2 goals or more or a hat-trick, a good option when a highly rated team is taking on a minnow. You can also place scorecast or wincast bets, goalscorer bets combined with correct score and match result respectively.
Top scorer bets for the overall tournament are also an excellent option for Copa America punters. You bet on the player you think will score the most goals throughout the tournament, so it makes sense to stick to players on teams that have a chance of reaching at least the semi-finals. The more games they play, the more chances they have to score goals. Unibet have already formed a Top Goalscorer market for this year’s Copa America, check the latest odds below.

Copa America: Match/1X2 Betting
Betting on the match result, otherwise known as the 1X2 market, is one of the best ways to bet on the Copa America. You can bet on either team to win or else you can bet on the draw. If it is in the knockout stages you can bet on the result after 90 minutes or on either team to win after extra time or penalties. In the latter stages of tournaments, games can be tight, so often a draw after 90 minutes can be a good choice if you are having a bet.
Odds are usually pretty short in the match betting markets, especially in the early stages when the ‘big’ teams are facing no-hopers. This is when punters are usually tempted to combine match bets in accas. If you do decide to go down that route try to keep the number of legs in your acca down. Upset results are more common than you might think, so take advantage of any acca insurance offers in case just one leg lets you down.
Copa America Betting: Both Teams To Score (BTTS)
This is one of our favourite markets here at SB24. We highly recommend checking it out if you are having a bet on any Copa America match. The beauty of this market is that you don’t need to predict the match winner. You are simply betting on whether one or both teams will score. If you bet on both teams to score, you need both sides to concede/score a goal. Otherwise, you will be betting on either one or both teams not scoring.
Although combination bets can be hard to land, win/draw both teams to score bets can be relatively easy to win on. You will get much better odds than in the match betting or BTTS markets, and you can also bet on either team to win to nil (1-0, 2-0, 3-0 etc.). It is very common to see favourites winning handsomely but conceding a sloppy goal, and this is where a win/btts bet will net you a nice few quid.
Copa America Betting: Handicap Markets
In the early stages of the Copa America, handicap bets are of huge interest. When there is a mismatch in terms of quality, you can back the favourites minus a set number of goals to get a better price. As an example, we will look at the odds for the opening match between Brazil and Bolivia.
In the match betting market Brazil are a prohibitive price to win at odds of 1/7. You won’t get rich quick at those odds, but in the handicap market, you can back them -2 goals at 21/20. They need to then win by 3 clear goals for you to win your bet. If you are bullish that there could be a rout on the cards, you could back Brazil -4 at odds of 11/2.
Copa America: In Play Betting
In-play, betting is one of the most dynamic and exciting ways to bet on the Copa America. Once the match kicks off you can bet in running with a whole host of UK bookmakers. William Hill have an excellent live betting suite and you have a multitude of markets at your fingertips. Some good value bets can often be found in play but be careful when placing an in-play bet.
Odds can change rapidly, so make sure you are getting the price you want. Ideally, your chosen live betting bookie should have top quality software that updates odds regularly and reliably. Betfair have a great range of in-play markets to choose from, as do bet365. However, like we always say, keep your options open to ensure you snare the best odds EVERY time.
