The Six Nations was originally known as the Home Nations Championship, a tournament first held in 1883 and contested by England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. In 1910 France joined the party and the tournament was then known as the Five Nations. England are the most successful team historically, with 28 total wins since 1883. France have 17 titles, while Ireland are next best with 14. England’s 80 point haul vs Italy in 2001 is the highest score ever achieved in an individual Six Nations match. England also scored a record number of tries in 2001 with 29.
