The PowerPlay sportsbook gives Canadian and New Zealand sports fans the chance to place their wagers on a wide variety of sports, using any of the many banking methods that they accept.
In this PowerPlay review we’re looking at everything they offer, from customer service response times to how easy it is to put a bet together. With a strong focus on Canada and NZ right now, this is a sports betting site that’s worth taking a closer look at.
PowerPlay Welcome Bonus – Up to $500
Canadians and New Zealand players each get a 100% bonus, up to a maximum of CAD500 or NZD500, respectively, when they make their first deposit. This size of bonus fits in with what we’ve come to expect from these markets, and we also like the fact that they make it clear that there’s a separate casino bonus you can also claim.

Bonus valid for 30 days. Minimum odds of 1.5/-200 or higher. The initial bonus amount must be staked 12 times before the funds are transferred over to your regular balance (12x rollover). Full terms apply. |
This is a solid sign up offer that gets new players started well. It has to be said that the casino bonus is bigger and runs over the first three deposits made, so something similar on the sportsbook would have been good to see.
PowerPlay Bonus Terms and Conditions
- Wagering requirement: 12x
- Minimum odds: 1.5 (-200)
- Sports restrictions: None
- Expiration period: 30 days
- Other restrictions: Stakes can’t exceed $250 on any bet. Maximum winnings of $4,000 apply to bonus funds.
Their terms & conditions are the same for Canada and NZ. The wagering requirements of 12x are higher than we’ve seen on Canadian sites like truenorth.bet, while the maximum stake and winnings restrictions make it more difficult to take home some real cash winnings. Overall, it’s fair although we feel it could have been a bit more generous in some aspects.
Bonuses for Existing Customers
The list of ongoing promotions for sports bettors mainly covers free bets on different sports and parlay offers. For example, if you place a wager of $100 or more on live MLB, NFL, or NBA bets you get a $20 free bet the next day.
Can PowerPlay be Trusted?
This sportsbook is registered with the gambling authorities in Curacao, through the operating company, which is called Deck Entertainment B.V. This company is best known for their online casinos, but for the moment PowerPlay is their only sportsbook.
We could find no evidence of problems with regulatory penalties or other issues. As for the site, it uses SSL to protect player information. Their approach to responsible gambling is to list some local options for getting support, as well as offering tools for controlling the player’s gambling time and budget.
Payment Methods at PowerPlay
The list of payment methods from PowerPlay is impressively long, with no-cost and instant deposits available using the likes of bank cards, electronic wallets, and cryptocurrencies. Canadian sports bettors might like the fact that the popular Interac e-transfer option is included.
For members from NZ, MuchBetter and the cryptocurrency option with Cryptopay are listed as being recommended by the operator.
Withdrawal Times and Limits at PowerPlay
In general terms, withdrawal times are excellent as they process requests in up to four hours. However, it’s worth noting that this is only during selected times of day, so you should check the conditions before requesting a withdrawal. If you request a withdrawal at night, then it won’t be processed until the following morning, for example.

Sports Betting Markets at PowerPlay
There are lots of different sports betting options on this site, from the most popular options like basketball, tennis, and football to less common sports such as volleyball and pool. It’s easy to find the sport you’re interested in, by clicking on the option from the bar at the top of the screen.
It’s neatly laid out so that all of the essential information is listed but it doesn’t feel cramped or cluttered. A range of markets are available, and we checked out some soccer bets to see how this works. Apart from the straightforward match-winner wagers, we could see odds on who would win the MLS or the World Cup as well as the likes of over/under goals for individual games.
The one thing we found awkward was that the advert for their casino continually popped up and often blocked the sports betting page. If you’re only interested in sports, this is likely to get annoying quickly.
Odds Comparison
We decided to check out the PowerPlay odds compared to other sportsbooks. With the first example, we found that a couple of other major sites had better odds on an upcoming baseball game. Digging deeper, we could see that the competitiveness of the odds really depends upon the sport, so it’s worth checking what they’re like on your favourites.

We checked the Basketball page, to see if the same thing happened. In this case, we looked up Bulgaria (+375) vs Lithuania (-500) basketball game in the FIBA World Cup Qualified. The overround of 104.39% was better than what we saw at Pinnacle.
Turning to tennis, Jack Sock (-187.5) v Jason Kubler (+150) at Wimbledon gives an overround of 105.36%. This compares well against the odds of -172 and +152 at 22Bet, which gives an overround of 102.97%.
Features
All of the basic features that you’d expect from an online sportsbook are present, with an easy-to-follow process for placing singles bets or parlays.
Cashout
The cashout option is accessed down the right-hand side of the page. You need to select which bet to cash out and if you can’t see the one you’re interested in it means that cashout isn’t available. Because of this, their process is slightly more cumbersome than most other betting sites.
Bet Builder
There is no bet builder on this site, so you can’t create your own personalized wagers covering different markets on one bet slip.
Quick Acca
Accumulators are offered and are known by the North American term of parlays on here. This lets you add several bets into a single wager, and you’ll be advised if you try to add anything that can’t be included on the same parlay.
Blog and Community
We couldn’t see blogs or social media activity for PowerPlay, so there doesn’t appear to have been much of an attempt by this brand to build up a community of sports fans. There is a news section on the site, but it hasn’t been updated much lately.

Mobile Betting
Mobile sports betting is a big deal these days, and it’s easy to see why, as it offers more convenience and flexibility. There’s no mobile app for PowerPlay, but you can easily enter their site from any mobile browser. The layout is easy to follow on a mobile screen and we had no issues navigating it.
Live Betting at PowerPlay
At the time of writing this PowerPlay sports betting review, the ‘bet live’ button takes us to a variety of different sports tabs. Tennis has the most options since the Wimbledon tournament is currently on the go, but we can also get live odds on golf, baseball, soccer and more.
The live betting process is easy to follow and lets you place your wager in a matter of seconds, which is important when you’re betting on a game that’s underway. The odds appear fair when compared to other live betting sites and we could see that they are updated as regularly as you would expect.
Live Streaming
Live streaming is missing from this sportsbook, but it’s not really available on many sites for Canadian and NZ bettors. Having said that, we like their live stats coverage and the fact that it adds some extra excitement to games by showing how the action is progressing across the field of play.
VIP Program at PowerPlay
The VIP program from PowerPlay appears to be invite-only. Their list of special services for VIPs includes a personal customer support manager, special bonus offers, and invites to VIP-only events.
PowerPlay Customer Support
We tried the live chat option to ask a few questions about the bonuses and service. An agent appeared online almost instantly and very quickly confirmed all of the details we asked for. It’s a fast, professional service that is a great option for clearing up any doubts you might have in very little time.

PowerPlay Markets – Perfect for Canadian and NZ Bettors
This sportsbook covers a few markets, but it looks like Canada and NZ are where they have their focus right now. We liked the fact that they recommend banking methods in these countries, and their recommendations suggest that are keen for more people to use Interac, Cryptopay or MuchBetter in Canada. With no Interac option in NZ, they’re concentrating on the other two methods.
They’ve put a lot of focus on their live betting page, with a wide variety of sports covered. This makes sense, as it’s a fast-growing market where providing a better service than other operators could help them to grow more quickly. Essentially, if you’re from Canada or New Zealand and love live betting, PowerPlay could be your perfect sportsbook site.
Our PowerPlay Verdict – Join Today
There are a lot of good things about PowerPlay sportsbook, such as the way that it’s laid out really well and is easy to navigate. The list of sports and events is about as wide as we could have hoped for, and their welcome bonus is big, although the wagering requirements are a little on the high side. Customer service is fast and efficient too, while the banking methods offer lots of variety to choose from.
In terms of improvements, we’d be happier with slightly better odds on some sports. You might find good odds on your chosen games, but there are also some sports where they fall behind their rivals.
