Betsson is one of the giants in the online betting and gaming industry, more so in the gaming one though. However, we cannot deny its presence in the betting market. The Betsson sportsbook is not as good as its casino counterpart, but it has a few tricks up its sleeve. We will try to go as in greater detail as possible in our Betsson review and bring its features and flaws closer to you.

❗ NOTE: Betsson no longer operates in the UK. If you’re looking for betting sites that accept customers from the UK, head to our list of the UK’s best online bookmakers for a look at the nation’s biggest and best online sportsbooks.

Betsson Sign-up Offer – 100% bonus up to €125 in Betsson Free Bets

On paper, the Betsson sportsbook sign-up offer is quite the treat, but once you take a look at the bonus terms, it ends up being mediocre. Not many betting sites have a sign up offer of the kind that gives punters up to €125 in Betsson free bets. Most bookmakers offer up to €30 to new customers. However, this bonus offer is NOT available to UK customers. This is one of the main reasons why we DO NOT recommend Betsson to UK customers. All others can step right up for the new customer match bonus!

Betting Sign-up Offer Terms And Conditions

With 10 times wagering requirements, including both the deposit and the bonus amount credited to your account, it takes a good effort to complete the requirement. However, since the minimum odds are just 1.50 (1/2), it’s not as difficult as many of you might imagine. On top of this, with 30 days available, you have more than enough time to wager the required amount. The fun part, there’s no mention of any betting restrictions, which sports are excluded, and which markets you are not allowed to bet on. Other than that, the Betsson sign up offer is all good!

Offers & Bonuses for Existing Sports Bettors

Our Betsson review wouldn’ be complete without looking at the kind of value punters can get after redeeming their Betsson sign up offer. With a generous new customer promo to talk about, you’d probably expect Betsson to have plenty of other promotions available, putting a focus on the retention of their loyal customer base. However, at the time of writing, there are no promos for sports customers, while again, there are casino games promos.

It’s a bold move and one that suggests that they haven’t got their bonus strategy correct as yet, as previously there have been plenty of gambling bonuses available. If you’re looking to claim a few Betsson free bets, we’re afraid you’re out of luck right now.

Just because there is nothing available now, doesn’t mean that they won’t offer something down the line and when speaking to their customer support team, Sportsbetting24 found out that they do regularly look to do ‘deposit bonuses, free bets, free spins and other fun things’.

Their customer service guy was helpful – more on that later.

Where Can I Find Great Betting Promos?

They believe that they can rely on their product to keep customers loyal to the brand, and we’ll talk about that later in this Betsson review. However, if you’re interested in offers for existing customers, then you should check out our Unibet sportsbook review where you’ll find details on their betting promotions and other alluring offers, or check out our betting promotions page where we list the bookies that frequently offer bonus deals.

Is Betsson Safe and Secure?

It doesn’t always ring true, but one good rule to follow when it comes to trust is how long they’ve been operating for, what their reach is and who they’re owned by. Betsson are in a strong position here being part of the Betsson Group and owned by Betsson AB, with the owners having a history in the gambling industry back to 1963 and are based in Sweden and Malta.

Originally Betsson was an English sports betting site but got partially acquired in 2003 and then fully acquired in 2005 and has gone about buying up other betting companies around the world, even floating on the Nasdaq – it is a behemoth of a company.

With betting licences in Ireland and Malta from the Malta Gaming Authority, it allows them to retain their global presence taking in players from lots of countries across the world.

Thankfully, they’ve also not been caught up with any regulatory issues or fines for neglecting their duties – this is always a really strong sign of a trustworthy site when it comes to online sports betting.

Banking & Payment Options

As of 14th April 2020, players from the UK are no longer allowed to make credit card transactions at online betting sites

Depositing at Betsson is quite easy with plenty of payment methods available. Naturally, debit and credit cards are an obvious choice, but for ease, we’re sure you’ll be happy to hear that Betsson accept Paypal too.

As well as Paypal, they also have other e-wallets such as Neteller, Skrill, Entropay, PaySafeCard and Trustly – all viable methods. Thankfully there are no fees (although they advise that your bank may apply local charges), but there are minimum and maximum values for depositing.

One interesting and huge thing to consider before depositing and withdrawing is that Betsson requires you to wager each deposit a minimum of 1 time – so if you want to withdraw it instantly, that won’t be possible under the company’s terms and conditions.

Deposit Limits

For Withdrawals at Betsson, you’ll find more or less the same options, but the limits are slightly different with a relatively high minimum withdrawal of €20 seeming a little harsh.

How Good is Betsson’s Sportsbook?

Once you’ve signed-up to Betsson, you’ll be directed to the homepage of your choice – sportsbook, casino, live casino or poker and on first sight, the home page looks clean with a slightly more stand-out design than that of its competitors, with a bright orange colour running through it.

On a closer look, the cleanliness of the site can somewhat be put down to a lot of white space which they’ve not really utilised, especially on the right-hand side of the website but we presume that this is to ensure that the bet slip is easily seen from here.

It’s easy to find the sport, event, team, league or tournament that you want to bet on, thanks to a good navigation bar on the left of the site that highlights ‘popular leagues’ straight away – this includes things such as the World Cup. After that, it’s a simple list of all the sports available.

Sports-wise there are 27 to choose from, ranging from football to tennis and from golf to esports, as well as a big focus on sports from the USA – the NBA, NHL and NFL in particular. Surprisingly, there is no horse racing product on offer on desktop devices, which is a huge punting sport across Europe, so they’re missing a trick there, and this makes it hard to compare them with sportsbooks such as William Hill, Paddy Power, Betway and Coral.

Betsson Sportsbook Pros and Cons

There are other pros and cons too with the betting product – they do have cashout, which is a great feature if you want to have a bit more flexibility over your bets and take the profit out early. So, they should be applauded for this.

Likewise, they have a cool search bar at the top of the page that allows you to type in any sport or team or league and it’ll bring up all relevant market pages for it – making it easy to find the bets you want to place.

Incredibly, they only have odds available in decimal format when playing on computers – they only have fractional odds on their mobile site, which is an odd choice in honesty. The language on the website is all set up very much for the more European style of betting – accumulators are called ‘combinations’ while other multiple options are called ‘System’ bets – so you need to understand that before making your bets.

Overall, it’s a solid platform, offering plenty of markets and it’s slick enough to get your stakes on easily, as long as you can overlook the small issues.

Mobile Betting with Betsson – Mobile Website Makes it Easy

Again, there are a few issues here in honesty. Betsson do have both an Android and iOS mobile app available for betting with. However, despite the Google Play store opening up for betting apps, this bookie hasn’t got sports betting app in there, so you need to download it from the website – which isn’t that hard to find. There’s a drop-down menu in the top right corner of the screen (on desktop), and the mobile equivalent is located below the main menu.

The iOS app is in the App Store, but this time, it is very much casino-first with the sports betting features included. That’s better than nothing of course, and it does allow you to bet on the go.

If you want to play on mobile, we’d suggest using the mobile website which loads quickly and has all the features that the main website doesn’t – horse racing and fractional odds in particular. The mobile site product works well and is fully functional – which is precisely what you want when on the move. And again, they’ve made sure to make the casino and gaming products prominent within the mobile site too.

Great Live Betting Product

Online sports betting has changed over the years, and now in-play betting is a huge part of it with various sportsbooks offering different in-play products to help you enjoy your favourite sports.

Live data associated with betting markets, live streaming where you can watch events as they happen, and a frequently improving set of markets for live betting are all features that have come on board recently.

Betsson’s live product is pretty good with Live Streaming of sports events being available and covering lots of different sports from football to tennis and basketball to hockey – furthermore, they have an easily accessible live schedule so you can see what there is to watch. All you have to do to access the live streaming is have a funded account. You don’t always get the premium leagues such as Premier League or the NBA, but there’s plenty of quality sport.

They also have a live score functionality via Score24 which helps you keep on top of what’s happening, while another cool feature when there’s no live video available, is their content scoreboard that shows generally what’s happening during a match or event.

Otherwise, the live product is similar to the general sports betting product.

The Betsson VIP Club

There used to be a VIP program, which was based on loyalty or comp points. However, with the change in advertising regulation, Betsson like many other bookies had to remove the details on the page, because they incentivised betting. It’s not the most pro-responsible gambling practice.

It appears that, under the pressure from licensing authorities, betting offers and VIP & Loyalty rewards in particular, have gone out of fashion. Or that’s what they want you to think. The majority of bookies still run great loyalty schemes that come back for more. In the case of Betsson, you have to register and check it out yourself.

Customer Support – Fast Live Chat Options

Much like the rest of the website, the customer service and Help area do a great job in giving the customer the assistance they’re looking for. It’s clean and easy to find the different functions – essential to a good customer service page. They’re also an excellent source of free bet information.

They offer four different options when it comes to customer support – Email, Request a callback, FAQs and Live Chat. Each has a guide timeline of how long they should take to answer you, again making it simple from the beginning.

FAQs

Firstly, it’s worth saying that the FAQ area is one of the best we’ve come across – loads of pre-written questions, the ability to search and comprehensive pre-written answers that should cover the majority of what you’re after.

Email Service

Email wise, they advise that they’ll take between 30 and 60 minutes to respond and all enquiries go to [email protected]

Phone Requests

Requesting a phone call back is a nice touch although probably unnecessary in the majority of cases, but again they promise to do so within 60 minutes.

Live Chat

Live Chat has a response time of 30seconds which sounds a little optimistic at first, but when tested o numerous occasions, they’ve exceeded this. More importantly, the customer service we’ve received here has been top-level; friendly, professional, informative and fun – you’re dealing with a human rather than a bot.

Where Else do Betsson Operate?

Betsson, as mentioned already, are a huge betting business and one that targets customers from all over the world. The website itself has 17 different language versions, mostly in European languages and the site is very much set-up from a more European position with betting terminology and language not English-focused.

A big presence in the Scandinavian nations, which makes sense with the company originating there, they do still value European customers, and the fact that they’ve invested heavily into elements like live streaming and the mobile website is encouraging too.

A Solid Betting Product Makes Betsson a Great Option

Although it’s a casino-first operator, Betsson has the capabilities to provide an attractive betting product. However, we regret to say that after examining them from all angles as part of our Betsson review testing process, until this very day, this isn’t the case. Betsson’s offering for sportsbook punters just isn’t very exciting or engaging at the moment. Their eyes are focused on casino players only, but we think this will change soon, especially since they are so big, and due to the existing regulation, the number of new operators has been brought to a minimum.

Pros
  • Lots of sports and markets to bet on
  • Live Streaming on many sports from football to tennis, to basketball. A funded account is required though
  • All customers can be VIPs with the Betsson VIP program – earn points and turn them into cash
Cons
  • No current sportsbook promotions
  • No Horse Racing or fractional odds on the desktop experience
  • All deposits must be played through once before withdrawing
