This is not a match for survival, this is a match for prestige. Two of the wealthiest clubs in the world meet on Tuesday in the Champions League, on the Santiago Bernabeu stadium. In the previous round PSG hosted the game on Parc des Princes, where the match ended in a goalless tie. Everybody expected an exciting game with long highlights and goals to talk about for days. Nevertheless, Real and PSG have another chance to show us why they are considered to be some of the fiercest pretenders for this year’s title.
The Royal Club of Madrid is performing very well both in the Spanish La Liga and the Champions League. It holds the first place in the Spanish football competition having the same points as their vicious rival Barcelona. In the Champions League Real has 7 points same as PSG and they are in the safe zone and if a miracle doesn’t happen both of them will advance to the knockout stage.
In the past few games Real Madrid showed outstanding performance. We can all agree Real has the best defense in Europe at the moment with only 3 conceded goals in La Liga. That’s 3 goals conceded on away games only. Keylor Navas is still an undisputed keeper of Real’s goal on Santiago Bernabeu. Having a goal keeper with his quality certainly puts a confidence to the rest of the squad, knowing that he’s there and can probably save the goal if they make a mistake. At the moment is seems like Keylor has a muscle strain. Most likely he will rest for the match against Las Palmas. He should be prepared for the encounter with PSG.
We can’t say Real is playing defensively since they’ve scored 6 goals in the Champions League and another 21 in La Liga. If we do a quick math that’s 2.25 goals scored and only 0.25 goals conceded per game.
Real Madrid so far hasn’t been defeated. With one draw match in Champions League and 3 in La Liga it seems like it has impressive advantage over virtually any other club on the grounds of EU. The attacking trio Ronaldo, Benzema and Bale are every goal keeper’s worst nightmare. Benzema and Bale should come back from minor injuries and se should see them play on Tuesday.
Since Benitez joined Real we can observe a more stable and consistent club. Although he has a lot of problems with injuries the boys believe in him and he always delivers. Injuries are his only problems and the bench is getting smaller every day.
Real Madrid will certainly go on the offensive on Tuesday. They are the hosts and they have total crowd support. We expect to see great showmanship and highlights we’re going to replay several times.
Injured players: Pepe, A. Arbeloa, D. Carvajal, J. Rodriguez.
Doubtful: K. Navas, G. Bale, K. Benzema.
On the other hand there’s PSG. They are absolutely dominant in the French Ligue 1, well ahead of 2nd place with 7 points already. So far they’ve accumulated a stunning goal scoring record of 25 for and 6 against, in their past 9 nine games. The goal difference certainly resembles the one of Real Madrid, who also showed outstanding performance in the Champions League. However, they failed to win on their last home match versus Real Madrid, despite the home turf advantage.
PSG likes to play on the offensive. PSG’s leading star strikers Zlatan Ibrahimovic along with Edinson Cavani are among the top 3 top goal scorers in Ligue 1. With the support of Real’s former player Angel Di Maria it’s one of the most effective striking trio in whole of Europe. PSG has no tough time dealing with both big and small football clubs. They simply grind everything in front of them. This time around the prey is bigger and the Parisians have to kick it up a notch if they want to see results on Santiago Bernabeu.
We won’t see David Luiz on Santiago Bernabeu for sure. His knee injury will keep him out of pitch for quite some time. Marquinhos and Pastore will most likely join him and will be able to only watch the game. On top of this Kevin Trapp got his thigh injured. It seems like PSG has a shredded defense line. Nonetheless, there are still pretty good individuals who can fill in the gap. After all PSG is a world class football club.
But do they have what it takes to overrun Real Madrid on Tuesday?
Injured Players: D. Luiz, P. Kimpembe, J. Pastore, Marquinhos
Doubtful: Kevin Trapp
Their last encounter was a huge disappointment from the perspective of football fans who seek entertainment. Many bettors expected to see goals scored on both ends. Unfortunately both weren’t satisfied. We hope Santiago Bernabeu will be a scene where goals will be scored.
Both teams have injury problems so we’re not going to see them shine with their full potential. Since most of PSG defense will be among the audience Real’s strikers should easily go through their defense line like a hot knife through butter. We can’t let PSG’s striker’s effectiveness go unseen and unconsidered. Benitez has his own problems too. Despite the fact some standard first line up players won’t show up we can confidently state that Real Madrid should dominate in the Tuesday’s match.
In their previous 3 encounters Real Madrid came two times on top. However, those were friendly matches and can’t be considered as a reliable basis for any predictions.
When all is said and done, Real Madrid has the upper hand. One of the vital factors for this prediction is the home crowd. We’re going to place a bet Real Madrid to win against PSG with odds of 1.7 or 8/11. If you like to make this awesome game even more exciting than it already is, treat yourself with a bet.
