Poland VS Portugal Prediction – Quarter 1 – 30.06.2016
The quarter finals of the Euro Cup 2016 start on the 30th of June. Poland and Portugal have the privilege to show their worth first and become the first semi-finalists in France. We expected to see a more confident play from the Polish, however, they managed to get in the knockout stage with doubtful performance. The Portuguese squad doesn’t stand out much as well. In fact, they got their ticket to the knockout stage ranked as 3rd in the group. Lady Luck backed them so far, but this is the quarter final. There’s no room for mistakes. Luck is not enough to enter the semi-finals. The Stade Vélodrome in Marseille will bring the 1st semi-finalist of the Euro Cup 2016.
Before the start of the tournament the Poland national football squad ranked rather high. It’s a big nation, with football history, a lot of high quality football players who can deliver. However, the past performance leads us to believe otherwise. In the group stage they scored only twice and these matches brought them 6 valuable points. The German machine was stopped by the Polish, ending the match without any goals. That clash is their biggest achievement so far. Besides Germany, the Polish did not have any top-notch opponent. Northern Ireland and Ukraine lost against Poland with 1-0. Both were rather close matches, but the Polish came on top.
Portugal has a football club that’s significantly better than these two, even better than the Swiss squad which was Poland’s opponent in the round of 16. The Polish are thirsty for victory, there’s no doubt about that. In the end, it’s not about the goals. All it matters is what team will win.
Probable line-up: Fabianski, Piszczek, Glik, Pazdan, Jedrzejczyk, Blaszczykowski, Krychowiak, Maczynski, Grosicki, Milik, Lewandowski.
It was a rough road, but the Portuguese managed to get to the quarter finals. The clash with the Hungarians was probably the most exciting game to watch in the Euro Cup 2016, so far. With 6 goals scored in total, 3 on each side, it was a back and forth game pleasant for the viewers’ eyes. On the other hand, their encounter with the Croatian squad was not such a nice game to watch. There were tears of joy, but a lot more out of sadness.
Cristiano Ronaldo has scored 2 goals so far and has 2 assists under his name. If Portugal fails to advance to the semi-finals he can say goodbye to the idea of becoming the best goal scorer of the Euro Cup 2016. Nani has 2 goals also under his name. Both of them are a major threat to the Polish defense. Keeping them on a leash seems impossible. Ronaldo and Nani are fast, skilled and experienced players. If Portugal comes on top, most likely they are the ones that will take the credit.
Slowly, but surely, we enter the late stages of the tournament. These are the games that will be remembered. Can the Porgutuese be remembered as victorious?
Probable line-up: Rui Patricio, Soares, Pepe, Fonte, Guerreiro, Joao Mario,, Adrien Silva, Carvalho, Renato Sanches, Nani, Ronaldo.
Poland VS Portugal – Odds and Predictions
In simple words, Portugal has the upper hand. They are better on paper and on the pitch. Their team can perform well even when under high pressure. The Polish seem to be very insecure. You can’t win if you don’t score any goals. We can already see this match ending with a penalty shootout. However, for the purpose of minimizing risk, we’re not opting for a tie match. Instead, we’re going to follow the bookmakers’ lead and we’re going to back Portugal with odds of 2.25 or 5/4.
You might as well bet that Cristiano Ronaldo will score against Poland. The risk is lower, but so are the odds.
